Why they're at your home
Raccoons and opossums come for food: open garbage cans, pet food left outside, bird seed, fallen fruit and compost. Squirrels come for bird feeders and fruit trees, and for a warm, dry attic.
They stay when they find a den: a gap under a deck, shed or porch slab, a loose soffit or roof vent into the attic, or a crawl space. In spring, females look for a sheltered place to raise their young, which is when they are most likely to move in.
