Which one is it?
Roof rat
Slim and dark, with a tail longer than its body. A climber: lives in trees, palms and attics.
House mouse
Small and gray-brown, with large ears. Gets through a gap about the size of a dime.
Why they're in your house in Brevard
Rodents come in for shelter and food. Roof rats climb trees, palms and utility lines to the roof, and get in through gaps in soffits, roof vents, roof returns and where pipes and wires enter the house. A rat fits through a hole about the size of a quarter; a mouse, the size of a dime.
Once inside, an attic or a wall void is dry, protected and close to food: pet food, bird seed, fallen fruit and garbage.
