Which one is it?
Cat flea
Tiny, dark reddish brown, flat from side to side, and a strong jumper. The flea on most dogs and cats in Florida.
Why they're in your house in Brevard
Fleas come home on pets, or are left in the yard by raccoons, opossums and stray cats. The adults live on the animal, and their eggs fall off into carpet, pet bedding, furniture and the shady spots in the yard where pets lie.
The larvae live in those places, then spin cocoons where they can wait for weeks until warmth and movement tell them a host is close. That is why fleas keep turning up after a pet is treated, and why treatment takes more than one visit.
